My dear friend @farmerchris just brought this to my attention: It’s awesome. I want to try it with Rowan of the Wood. After all, we need an audio version of it, and we’re not going to be able to produce an audiobook version for some time yet, so this is a perfect interim solution! There is a preface and 26 chapters in Rowan of the Wood. I need someone to claim each chapter and record it in mp3. I’ll host all the chapters on our server, and create a community-created audio/podiobook out of it. I think this is a great experiment! Who’s with me? Comment below to claim your chapter, and I’ll update this blog post as they come in, much like it is on the aforementioned page. If you don’t have Garage Band or some other audio/podcast creating software, there are several available online. Just Google it. Here are two examples: AudioRecorder and NCH Software. When it’s all complete, perhaps I’ll serialize it up on iTunes or podiobooks.com. We’ll see when it’s all finished. I’m so excited! Who’s with me? Claimed chapters below. Well I guess I should put up my share, since it was my idea. Here’s the Prologue: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/130010/Rowan_Prologue.mp3 I recorded this with Audacity, which is a great audio recording and editing tool. My mic is really not very good so I’m sure someone out there can do better!

I’d love to be a part of this! I downloaded the software and I’m trying it out. Assign me a chapter & I’ll try! I want to test it out – I have a Southern accent (not too thick) but I want to see how it’ll sound. This is a brilliant idea!

Wow. Seems like you’ve got quite a few folks interested in helping. Way to go! Librivox.org is all about the community audiobook. They use public domain titles only, but many of them are recorded by a series of people. We have some short story compilations on Podiobooks.com that were recorded by multiple people. And we have a few “full cast” audiobooks. But so far, no original novel that I know of. So when it’s done, if you’re happy with how it turned out, I’d like to see it on our site, too. E.

This is a really cool idea! I’d love to do it, but the sound of my own voice annoys the crap out of me. There is no way I’d make anyone listen to a whole chapter of it! LOL.
